25th Annual BelfastTrad Piping Tionól

We are delighted to be hosting the 25th annual piping tionól, a gathering of uilleann pipers; learners, performers, and fans of this iconic Irish instrument.

On the Friday evening we are pleased to present a discussion and demonstration on Slow Airs, with Dublin piper Mick O'Brien. Designed for players of all instruments, Mick will talk about interpreting slow airs, their history and background, and will also demonstrate on whistle and pipes.

This is a great opportunity for traditional musicians (learners and beyond) to gain insight into this often overlooked aspect of the tradition, presented by one of Ireland's most respected pipers.  Crecent Arts Centre 7:30pm, £5 at the door

Saturday we have workshops 1:30-5:30 at An Droichead, Cooke Street. Piping with Robbie Hannon,(Belfast)  Mick O'Brien (Dublin) and Jimmy O'Brien Moran, (Waterford) and a reed-making workshop with Martin Preshaw (Belfast, Fermanagh)

Saturday Evening is the traditional 'Piper's Chair' concert.  This is a free event at An Droichead. It will be a lovely, informal night of piping with our visiting tutors and guests. Music kicks off around 8:30 and will go late. BYO
