The Kids Mixed Instrumental Class, led by Maria Rafferty, is designed for young musicians at improver/intermediate level. This collaborative class gives students the opportunity to learn tunes together, develop ensemble skills, and build confidence playing as part of a group. Itโ€™s also a great way to meet other young players and enjoy making music in a supportive and fun environment.

The Mixed Instrumental Class with Catriona Gribben is designed for intermediate and advanced players on melody instruments, including guitar and bouzouki. This collaborative class focuses on developing ensemble skills, teaching 1โ€“2 new tunes per week, and building confidence in session playing โ€” from creating smooth transitions between tunes to playing comfortably at speed as part of a group. Led by multi-instrumentalist Catriona Gribben, a Donegal-born performer with extensive international touring experience and a key figure in Belfastโ€™s traditional music scene, the class offers an engaging, supportive environment for players to expand their repertoire and musicianship.

 
 

Kevin mCcullagh

Kevin is a fiddle player from Belfast with a detailed, driving yet unhurried style. He is active in the local trad session scene and the experimental improv scene at the Sonic Arts Research Centre. Kevin is a founding member of the experimental trio Coras, performing internationally and at Irish festivals including Sonorities Festival, Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, Hilltown Contemporary Music Festival, and Electric Picnic.

Maria rafferty

Maria Rafferty is a Belfast-based tin whistle player, fluter and singer who has been part of the traditional Irish music scene in the city since 1987. Having started out as a session musician, she has also performed with a wide range of folk, traditional and singing groups, including choirs and community circles. Trained through the McPeake School of Music and shaped by years spent among respected local musicians, Maria has built a rich repertoire which she now shares with students across Belfast and beyond.
