Scottish Steps Dance Workshop with Frank McConnell

  • Crescent Arts Centre 2-4 University Road Belfast, BT7 1NH (map)

Scottish Stepdancing - jigs and reels for all!

Frank McConnell was born and brought up in Glasgow of a family with strong Hebridean ties and no interest in the arts. After graduating from Jordanhill College, he trained with Royston Maldoom and the Arts in Fife, where he cultivated a deep interest in creativity, the Arts and education in its broadest sense.

He has performed and collaborated with many theatre companies, most notably Communicado, and has been commissioned by several dance and opera companies.  In May 2000, he was one of the first people in Britain to be awarded a Fellowship from the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts.  He is the founder of three significant dance companies in Scotland:  Dundee Rep Dance Co (now Scottish Dance Theatre);  Dannsa (a traditional dance collective); and his own company – plan B.

Today Frank will be delivering a workshop open to all levels of experience and will focus mainly on steps in jig and reel time; some very old steps and some created more recently.
