Liam Ó Scanláin Workshop and Performance

Join BelfastTrad to dance jig steps with Liam Ó Scanláin.

Time, Date & Location:

11.00am, Saturday 12th December, at home on Zoom.

The tutor:

Choreographer and performer Liam Ó Scanláin’s art is firmly rooted in a seán nós and percussive dance tradition.  From Newport, Co. Mayo, he is a Masters graduate in Traditional Dance Performance at the Irish World Academy and a recipient of Corn TG4 at Oireachtas na Gaeilge.

Liam has performed with Irish musical acts across Europe, Canada, Russia and New Zealand inlcuding the Irish-Québécois collaboration, Sokalo Remix, with Montréal based Zeugma Danse.  Liam became a Dance Ireland Associate Artist in 2016 and his choreography pieces include ‘Nascanna’, described as “authentic, captivating and joyous” and Preab Meadar, a concert of sean nós song, music and dance, based on the irregular time signatures of An Dán Díreach.

Liam is on the managing board of Leitrim Dance Project, a project to promote pathways for emerging dancers in collaboration, along with dancers Edwina Guckian and Michael O’Rourke.  He is also a regular tutor at the Irish World Academy and through these roles Liam is keen to nurture and develop a living traditional dance community. 

The workshop:

Liam will teach sean nós jig steps to music from his native Mayo. Some dance experience is beneficial .

Liam will begin the workshop at 11am with a short break at 12.00 noon and the workshop will finish at 1.15pm.

The recital:

Your workshop registration also includes a free performance by Liam from 1.30pm. The performance is open to all, email info@belfasttrad.com to register.

You will receive a Zoom invite and instructions by email before the workshop. You must have a reliable internet connection to access the workshop. Please feel free to contact us if you have not used Zoom before, if you have questions about Zoom or how online delivery will work.

Cost and booking:

Registration is £15. Current students and members of BelfastTrad receive a reduced rate of £10. Registration closes at 5pm Friday 12th December. Booking is essential and places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment and to receive any info about the workshop in plenty of time.
