Emer Mayock Workshop and Recital

BelfastTrad presents a masterclass in the music of Mayo with Emer Mayock, for intermediate level tin whistle players.

Time, Date & Location:

11.00am - 2pm, Saturday 28th November, at home on Zoom.

The tutor:

Emer Mayock is a tin whistle & flute player and uilleann piper from Co. Mayo. She has performed and recorded with a wide range of traditional musicians and collaborated with artists from other traditions most notably the Breton flautist Jean-Michel Veillon. Recent musical projects include the exploration of the 19th Century Goodman Manuscripts with piper Mick O’Brien and fiddle player Aoife Ní Bhriain. Their recording of music from the manuscripts received the TG4 Gradam Cheoil Award in 2014.  Emer is also involved in the Music of Mayo (musicofmayo.ie) which explores the musical voice of the county through research and the creation of new field recordings and videos of Mayo musicians.

The workshop:

The workshop will explore tone, technique, repertoire and will explore any challenges and questions regarding tin whistle playing introduced by the workshop participants.

Emer will begin the workshop at 11am with a short break at 12.00 noon and the workshop will finish at 1.15pm.

The Recital:

Workshop registration also includes a free recital by Emer from 1.30pm. The recital is open to all, email info@belfasttrad.com to book your place.

You will receive a Zoom invite and instructions by email before the workshop. You must have a reliable internet connection to access the workshop. Please feel free to contact us if you have not used Zoom before, if you have questions about Zoom or how online delivery will work.

Cost and booking:

Registration is £15. Current students and members of BelfastTrad receive a reduced rate of £10. Registration closes at 5pm Friday 27th November. Booking is essential and places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment and to receive any info about the workshop in plenty of time.
